  1. Naomi Watanabe

Naomi Watanabe is a Japanese comedian and the most popular Instagramer in Japan and she has 7.6 million followers. Her closest competitors are Kiko Mizuhara (4.8 million) and Rola (4.7 million). She became popular due to her air Beyonce and she’s now a fashion icon. Although it’s said that Japanese people like being slim, she’s not afraid of not being slim. She posts not only fashionable photos, but also funny ones. She runs her plus-sized brand called ‘PUNYUS’ which is popular and has a good reputation from those who have trouble finding their size in Japan. Also she acted in a lead role as a single-mother in a popular Japanese drama called Kannasaaan!.

Her popularity even extends outside of Japan . She held a world-tour in Taiwan, Los Angeles and New York. VOGUE also put together a special issue and she appears on a GAP commercial alongside celebrities from around the world. She is a true Japanese influencer and you cannot miss her in 2018.

2. ROLA

ROLA is a model and an actress living in Japan and LA. She has 4.7 million followers on Instagram. She posts sophisticated photos on Instagram almost like a photo book. Her outfits are usually unique so you won’t be bored looking at her Instagram :) She’s well-known due to her hard work, style keeping, cooking, practising and speaking English. She is a person Japanese women admire.

3. Atarashii Chizu (新しい地図)

Atarashii Chizu is male idol group made up three stars, Shingo Katori, Tsuyoshi Kusanagi and Goro Inagaki. They used to be members of SMAP which was one of the benchmark idol groups in Japan for around 25 years. After breaking up in 2016, three of members reunited as Atarashii Chizu.

They started using social media, as their previous talent agency, Johnny’s, banned them from adding images on the internet. It was quite new for Japanese people to see them appearing on the Internet. Shingo uses Instagram, Tsuyoshi has a Youtube channel and Goro writes the blog, and they all have Twitter accounts. Additionally, they hosted 72時間ホンネテレビ (72 jikan honne tv) on internet TV station AbemaTV last November. The programme had lasted for 72 hours and was broadcasted live. The number of viewers reached 74 million over three days, making it the most viewed programme on AbemaTV.

As they are all well-known in Japan and have many followers on each social media, their influential powers will bigger in 2018.

4. Michiko Yamanaka

Michiko Yamanaka is a mother of one, manager and designer of swimwear brand “ALEXIA STAM”. She used to appear on the reality show ‘terrace house’. Her Instagram has 735k followers. She posts photos about her brand, daily life, the ocean and child care. Her followers are mainly young women, so she sometimes post PR content relating to cosmetics, lovely cafes and famous brands like BVLGARI. She’s popular as a woman who both works and takes care of her baby.

5. Hikaru Yokota

This model in Japan, has 250k followers on Instagram. Her Instagram fascinates young women. She often introduces cosmetics and brand clothes via PR posts. The responses to her PR posts are quite good. therefore she has contracted with Uniqlo and coordinates Uniqlo’s clothes herself. She’s quite good at coordinating and showing clothes nicely.
